A preview: AdBlue® price per litre by pack

The guide starts with the question most buyers get wrong: which pack size. Here is the per-litre comparison from our published prices, so you can see why it matters.

PackPrice ex GSTPer litreUsually suits
10 L$19.50$1.95Utes, vans, occasional top-ups
20 L$31.50$1.58Small fleets, workshops
210 L drum$185$0.88Farms, small depots with a drum pump
1,000 L IBC$890–$990$0.89–$0.99Fleets using 200 L a month or more

A fleet using 400 L a month pays $7,560 a year ex GST in 20 L packs, against $4,560 in timber-base IBCs. That is $3,000 a year before delivery, just from the pack size. The guide covers what you need on site to make the change: a forklift or pallet jack, shade, a pump kit and a clean dispensing setup.

Ex Works prices, ex GST. Delivery is quoted to your suburb. A 15 L pack is also available at $27.50.

Five checks before you buy AdBlue® from anyone

  1. Ask for the VDA licence numberGenuine AdBlue® is made under a VDA licence. Ours is No. 0005569. See what the licence means.
  2. Ask for a Certificate of AnalysisIt should be for the batch you receive, tested to ISO 22241, with a batch number that matches the label. You can check ours with the batch lookup.
  3. Check the containersSealed caps, clean fittings, a clear label with batch number and fill date. Refilled or unlabelled containers are a contamination risk.
  4. Compare prices the same wayEx GST, per litre, delivered to your site. Then check what happens to the empty IBCs and drums.
  5. Ask where it comes fromWhere it's made and where stock is held tells you how exposed you are if supply gets tight. See protecting your fleet from shortages.

What to check when your AdBlue® arrives

On the delivery

Seals intact, no leaks or damage, labels readable. Note the batch number and fill date against the delivery docket.

Before you decant

Clean, dedicated transfer gear only. No funnels or jugs that have held diesel or oil, and no rinsing with tap water.

Where it's stored

Out of direct sun and away from heat. At or below 25 °C it lasts about 18 months. At up to 35 °C, about 6 months.

What it touches

Polyethylene, polypropylene or stainless steel only. Copper, brass, zinc, aluminium and mild steel are attacked by AdBlue®.

If anything looks wrong, such as cloudiness, particles, discolouration or a strong ammonia smell, don't put it in a vehicle. Keep a sealed sample and ask for our free basic check. Off-spec AdBlue® can cause SCR faults, derate and damage to injectors or catalysts. The full clean-IBC checklist is in the guide and in our IBC check article.

Questions buyers ask

What's the most cost-effective way to buy AdBlue per litre?

Larger packs cost less per litre. On our list, 20 L packs are about $1.58 per litre, 210 L drums about $0.88 and 1,000 L IBCs $0.89 to $0.99, ex GST and Ex Works. Bulk tanker pricing depends on volume and location. The right choice also depends on your storage and how fast you use it.

How can I tell if AdBlue is genuine?

Ask for the manufacturer's VDA licence number and a Certificate of Analysis for your batch, and check that the batch number matches the label. Buy sealed, clearly labelled containers.

What materials can AdBlue touch?

Polyethylene, polypropylene and stainless steel are compatible. AdBlue attacks copper, brass, zinc, aluminium and mild steel, so avoid fittings and containers made from them.
