Every summer, grain from the Western District and beyond is trucked into the Port of Geelong. For carriers, that means a short period of very high AdBlue® use on top of normal work.
Take five B-doubles on grain cartage, each doing about 2,500 km a week at around 50 L/100 km. That is about 1,250 L of diesel per truck, or 6,250 L across the fleet. At 3–6% of diesel, the fleet uses roughly 190–375 L of AdBlue® a week. Over an eight-week harvest, that adds up to about 1,500–3,000 L.
At that volume, buying 20 L drums is expensive and slow to handle. The same 3,000 L works out like this at our Ex Works prices (ex GST):
| Pack | Per litre | For 3,000 L |
|---|---|---|
| 20 L drums | about $1.58 | about $4,725 |
| 1,000 L IBC (timber base) | $0.89 | $2,850 |

Delivery to Geelong is quoted separately to your suburb. See our bulk vs IBC vs drums guide for the handling side of the decision.
Geelong's climate is mostly mild, which is good for AdBlue® storage. The exceptions are the hot northerly days in summer, when temperatures can climb past 40 °C, and the wind and salt near the bay and the Bellarine.

It depends on kilometres and diesel use. As an example, five B-doubles each doing 2,500 km a week at about 50 litres per 100 km use roughly 190 to 375 litres of AdBlue a week between them.
Usually, yes. At our Ex Works prices, an IBC works out at 95 cents a litre compared with about $1.58 a litre in 20 litre drums, and it is far less handling.

It does not affect the AdBlue itself if the container is sealed, but it speeds up corrosion of any unsuitable fittings. Use polyethylene, polypropylene or stainless steel, never brass, zinc or aluminium.
