AdBlue® for Hunter mining and plant

The Upper Hunter coal mines and the contractors around them are some of the heaviest AdBlue® users in NSW. Off-road Tier 4 and Stage V engines in dozers, excavators, graders, water carts and light vehicles all need AUS 32 that is clean and on spec.

On a mine site, the cost of bad AdBlue® is not the product. It's the machine. Off-spec or contaminated AdBlue® can cause SCR faults, put a machine into derate, and damage injectors or catalysts. When that happens to a production dozer, the lost shift costs far more than a year of AdBlue®.

What mine and plant buyers usually ask for

Dust is the main enemy in an open-cut pit. Keep IBC caps closed, cover the valve end, and never decant through a funnel that has been used for oil or coolant. Our contamination guide covers the common causes.

Port, freight and depot use around Newcastle

Closer to the coast, AdBlue® demand comes from the Port of Newcastle, the depots around Beresfield, Thornton and Tomago, and freight running the M1, Hunter Expressway and New England Highway. Construction work across Lake Macquarie and Maitland also runs a lot of Euro VI tippers and concrete agitators.

A worked example: port shuttle fleet

A container carrier runs ten prime movers on short port-to-depot shuttles. Each does about 1,500 km a week, and stop-start work pushes diesel use to around 55 L/100 km. That's about 825 L of diesel per truck, or 8,250 L a week for the fleet. At 3–6% dosing, the fleet uses roughly 250–500 L of AdBlue® a week, or about 1,000–2,000 L a month.

On drums

That's 50–100 × 20 L drums a month, carried, opened and poured by hand. Every open container is a chance for contamination, and every empty one has to be disposed of.

On IBCs or bulk

One or two 1,000 L IBCs a month, or a 5,000 L tank with scheduled tanker deliveries. The per-litre cost is lower and drivers fill from a nozzle. Compare options on bulk vs IBC vs drums.

Hunter climate and your AdBlue® stock

Newcastle itself is mild and humid, but the Upper Hunter around Singleton and Muswellbrook gets much hotter in summer. An IBC sitting in the sun on a mine laydown area can be well above the air temperature. At or below 30 °C, AdBlue® keeps for about 12 months. At or below 35 °C, that drops to about 6 months. Above 35 °C, test it before use.

We supply the Hunter from our Sydney site at Fairfield East, about 160 km down the M1 from Newcastle. You can collect Ex Works, or we deliver on our own trucks and tanker trailers, with bulk loads from 1,000 L to 32,000 L. Delivery is quoted to your site, and regular runs can be arranged.

Questions buyers ask

Do you deliver AdBlue® to Newcastle?

Yes. Delivery to Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and Lake Macquarie is quoted to your suburb and quantity, supplied from our Sydney site at Fairfield East.

Is it genuine AdBlue®?

Yes. Liquidia holds VDA AdBlue® licence No. 0005569 and every batch is tested to ISO 22241.

What is the smallest order?

Single drums are available (call for a price), and 210 L drums and IBCs are the same price for one or more.

Can you supply AdBlue to mine sites in the Upper Hunter?

Yes. We deliver IBCs and bulk loads to site, quoted to your location. A Certificate of Analysis is available for each batch, and we can supply bunded tanks and spill kits to help meet site environmental requirements.

Do off-road mining machines use more AdBlue than trucks?

Often, yes. Trucks typically dose about 3 to 6 percent of diesel use, and some off-road engines dose higher. Check the operator's manual for each machine, or call us with the machine list and we'll help you estimate site usage.

What's the best way to keep dust out of AdBlue on site?

Keep IBC caps and valves covered, use a closed pump and hose system with an inline filter and auto nozzle, and never use funnels or containers that have held oil, coolant or diesel. Dust and reused containers are the most common causes of contamination.

Can you deliver to a depot at Beresfield or Tomago on a regular run?

Yes. Delivery is quoted to your suburb, and if you use a steady amount each month we can arrange a regular delivery run. Call us with your usage.
