On the Downs, AdBlue® demand is lumpy. Headers, chaser-bin tractors and grain trucks all run hard for a few weeks at harvest, then usage drops right back.
The winter crop comes off in late spring and early summer, and the summer crops such as sorghum and cotton in autumn. The mistake we see most is waiting until the header is in the paddock to buy AdBlue®, then paying for small drums in a hurry.
Say a family operation burns 8,000 L of diesel across harvest in a header, two tractors and a truck. At 3–6% of diesel, that is roughly 240–480 L of AdBlue®, and newer off-road engines can sit at the high end or above it. That is half an IBC, or two to three 210 L drums, bought once before harvest starts.
| Buying it as | Approx. cost for 480 L (Ex Works, ex GST) |
|---|---|
| 20 L drums (24 drums) | $756 |
| 210 L drums (3 drums, 630 L) | $555 for 630 L |
| 1,000 L IBC | $890 for 1,000 L |
If you will use the rest of an IBC on the summer crop or on trucks within the year, the IBC is the lowest cost per litre. If not, 210 L drums avoid holding stock too long.
Toowoomba sits on the Great Dividing Range, and winter frosts are common across the Downs. AdBlue® freezes at about −11 °C, so it will rarely freeze here, and if it does it thaws without harm. Frost is not the main risk.
Summer is. Out on the plains, a shed or a container in the sun can run well above 30 °C for weeks. AdBlue® keeps about 12 months at or below 30 °C and about 6 months at or below 35 °C, so stock bought for one harvest may not be in spec by the following year if it sits in a hot shed.
Toowoomba and the Darling Downs are supplied from our Brisbane site at Rocklea, about 125 km east along the Warrego Highway. Many local trucks already run to Brisbane and back, so Ex Works pickup of a pallet or an IBC on a return leg is often the most cost-effective option.
For farms, feedlots, freight depots and energy project sites that would rather have it delivered, we quote to your suburb. Larger users can go to a bulk tank with tank-level monitoring and scheduled refills, with tanker loads from 1,000 L to 32,000 L (see bulk and on-site).

Yes. Liquidia holds VDA AdBlue® licence No. 0005569 and every batch is tested to ISO 22241.
Single drums are available (call for a price), and 210 L drums and IBCs are the same price for one or more.
Rarely. AdBlue freezes at about minus 11 degrees Celsius, which is colder than the Downs usually gets. If it does freeze it thaws without harm, and vehicles with SCR systems are designed to heat it.
Work from your expected diesel use. At 3 to 6 percent of diesel, an operation using 8,000 litres of diesel over harvest needs roughly 240 to 480 litres of AdBlue, and newer off-road machines may need more.
Only if it is stored cool. At or below 30 degrees it keeps about 12 months, but in a hot shed that drops to about 6 months. Send us a sample for a free basic check before using old stock.
